Using EasyRoutes for In-Store Pickup (e.g. adding photos and signature for Proof of Pickup)
EasyRoutes can be adapted to manage in-store pickups by leveraging Shopify order tags and automation rules. Follow these steps to ensure a smooth workflow for handling pickup orders efficiently.
Prerequisite: Identifying and Tagging In-Store Pickup Orders
- Use Shopify order tags or, if applicable, the 'delivery method' (e.g., a method called POS Pickups) to identify in-store pickup orders. The former may require tagging orders using Flow.
- Configure Order Automation Rules in EasyRoutes to mark these orders as 'pickup' tasks automatically.
- Keep in mind that Shopify does not assign a shipping address to pickup orders, which can create routing issues. To resolve this, you can bulk-update these orders using Shopify Flow or the Shopify API to set the pickup location as the shipping address.
Customizing Your Setup for Staff Handling Pickups
- Add staff members handling in-store pickups as drivers in EasyRoutes so they can access orders via the EasyRoutes Driver App.
- Set up a saved filter view in EasyRoutes for in-store pickup orders. This will allow associates to see all pending pickups in one place and streamline the process of creating a 'route' for capturing customer signatures and photos.
- On the view, modify route options to assign and dispatch pickup orders to designated staff members, ensuring an organized workflow.
Creating a Daily Pickup Route or Managing Pickups in Real-Time
- Even though EasyRoutes is designed for deliveries, you can create dedicated routes for in-store pickups.
- One approach is to create scheduled routes for expected in-store pickups if there's a pickup date, allowing associates to track them efficiently in one place.
- Alternatively, staff can construct pickup routes on-demand as individual pickups occur, which may be useful for lower frequency or ad-hoc pickups.
Triggering Pickup-specific notifications
- By changing pickup orders to a 'pickup' stop type, you can enable the desired notifications that you want to send only for pickup orders.
- These notifications will be triggered similarly to your delivery orders (e.g. based on status updates on a stop on a route.)
Capturing Signatures & Photos for Proof of Pickup
- The EasyRoutes Driver App allows in-store staff to capture customer signatures and take photos of the item at pickup, just like they would for a delivery.
- Once recorded, the staff can mark the pickup stop as completed, ensuring that all necessary proof of pickup is attached to the order.
- These records provide clear documentation in case of disputes, functioning similarly to proof of delivery in EasyRoutes.
By implementing these steps, you can effectively manage in-store pickups within EasyRoutes, enhancing operational efficiency while maintaining a reliable record of completed pickups.
If you're looking to manage your pickup orders, we also work with Shopify's native pickup features, so you could update these orders in the Shopify admin directly. If you are looking for options that help you with providing a widget or cart options to manage pickups or local deliveries, you can use third-party apps that integrate well with EasyRoutes instead.
